    Totally tubular! Non-mechanical mixing for better temperature uniformity. Greater temp diff = more conducting. This prevents fluid at walls from getting much hotter than center and reducing heat transfer rate.

    Hi, do you think such a helicoil placed in the pipe flow, Before a bend in a pipe could elevate the ware often found on inner side of the bend, this area often showed more ware and pitting. Due to the flow force hitting this bend, pitting exassabating its self enlarging in flow action, where such as you demonstrate, could possibly deminish such full on force travel round bend,? Interesting And... Thanks for the reply LOL 😂,.. Thom in Scotland.

    the only thing "wrong" with the explanation is that the bubbles in the right pipe are not moving erratically. they are moving along the lines of the vortex motion created by the spring. that "turbulent" flow is more precisely stated as vortexual flow

      Yes, but the flow is a bit different than the parabolic velocity distribution shown here. In blood vessels you get a phenomenon called plug flow where the majority of the blood moves in unison like a solid plug. radiologykey.com/normal-blood-flow-in-arteries-and-veins/

    The flow rate in the laminar tube is made as a function of the friction factor that the tube wall produces. The friction that the tube wall applies on the fluid slows it down at the edges which makes the bubbles move slower as well. Towards the middle of the tube, the friction of the surrounding fluid molecules as a result of the tube wall is decreased so the fluid (and therefore the bubbles) move quicker through the tube near the middle.

    @KevinLiddellJohnson : In fact there was no flow rate in the experiment. The bubbles were freely ascending through the glass tubes, water filled, vertically mounted, and illuminated from the bottom. The apparently different flow rates are due to the fact that in the smooth tube your attention is inadvertently fixed in the bubbles near the tube walls, which are also relatively more compared to the bubles in the inner flow, and move slower due to the laminar flow effect too.
